  1. Celebrating Peer Review Week at BMC: How Peer Review can help uphold research integrity

The past few years have highlighted the importance of scientific research and communication as researchers from multiple disciplines came together to fight SARS-CoV-2. However, trust in research has also suffered as a number of high profile retractions of Covid-19 research have featured in the mainstream media. This, against a backdrop of increasing retractions in scientific publishing, confirms the central role of structures to uphold research integrity to safeguard trust in science. In recognition of this, the theme for this year’s Peer Review Week is “Research Integrity: Creating and supporting trust in research”.

We are delighted to announce the upcoming launch of the new selective BMC journal BMC Global and Public Health, to sit alongside BMC’s renowned and leading journals BMC Medicine and BMC Biology.

  3. Why choose a BMC journal?
BMC is a pioneer in open-access publishing and a champion of open science. Since its founding over 20 years ago, BMC has never wavered from its commitment to transparency and openness. At the time, open access publishing was far from the mainstream concept it is today. But we have always believed that the community should have free access to the published literature, and that the path to publication should be clear and transparent. We also know that as publishers, we serve the research community and we have always aimed to pioneer innovative approaches to peer review and publication, promote transparency and open research and deliver a fair, efficient and transparent peer review process. The ideals that have guided us throughout the years have become rallying points for the research community today, and we are proud of our history of openness.
